What Kind of Surface Do the Kids Need to be on for the Music?
While it’s great to have a rug for the kids to sit on, it’s not necessary.
Some parents like to use the “ABC” mats, or the interlocking mats that have letters and numbers in the middle that pull out, These tend to not really function as mats since kids pull them apart, and before you know it you have ABC’s and 123’s all over the place. You not only no longer have a cushion to put the kids on as intended, but you also have bits and pieces of foam they often trip on.
Since I do a lot of dancing and jumping around, in the end we have to clear away the remains of the “ABC” mats anyway. These mats tend to become completely dismantled within the first minute of a birthday party show. This is particularly true if the majority of children at the party are between ages 1 and 3.
In short, if a mat is necessary, it’s best to put down the interlocking mats that don’t have anything pop out in the middle of each piece.
